Why the AVR
Platform
Matters

Voltage regulation is a defining factor in generator performance. The AVR governs how effectively an alternator maintains voltage during load variation, motor starting, fault conditions, and parallel operation.

A modern digital AVR platform enables:

Stable voltage under transient and non‑linear loads Improved short‑circuit response
Protection of connected electrical equipment Reduced commissioning time and risk
Reliable load sharing during parallel operation Enhanced monitoring and lifecycle diagnostics

Digital Excitation
vs Traditional
Analogue
Regulation

Traditional analogue AVRs rely on fixed circuitry and manual potentiometer adjustment. Traditional tuning is performed manually and does not include automatic optimisation features.

The MxK digital platform replaces this with software‑driven control, enabling:

Autotuning during initial start‑up Integrated diagnostics and fault visibility
Wide parameter configurability Simplified upgrade and replacement without re‑tuning
Repeatable performance across installations

Autotuning: Faster
Commissioning,
Lower Project Risk

During generator start‑up, the MxK AVR automatically analyses alternator and system characteristics and sets its own stability parameters. This removes the need for manual tuning during commissioning or when operating in parallel with other generators.

Key project benefits include:

Reduced site commissioning time Improved stability from first start
Lower dependency on specialist excitation knowledge Faster generator acceptance and handover

The MxK Range

The MxK platform is available in two core variants:

M3K Digital AVR

  • Standard on ECO series alternators from 400kVA to 2800kVA 50Hz/ 480kVA to 3410kVA 60Hz
  • Three‑phase voltage sensing
  • Built‑in droop function for parallel operation
  • High peak excitation current capability for demanding load acceptance
  • Enhanced system stability under dynamic load conditions

M3KS‑HD Variant

  • Standard on High Power ECO series LV/MV and HV alternators > 3056kVA 50Hz/ >3667kVA 60Hz
  • High Dynamic Response module
  • Faster voltage recovery during sudden load rejection
  • Optimised for high transient environments

System Integration and Connectivity

Smartready MxK AVRs (which are the “S” types) support open CANBus communication with Mecc Alte generator controllers. This enables a connected power architecture where alternator operating data, alarms, and configuration settings are shared automatically.

Benefits include:

Simplified configuration via controller interface or mobile app Remote diagnostics through Smartcloud
Real‑time performance monitoring Improved service planning and lifecycle management
